Shri Sunil Bharthwal IAS (Bihar 1989) presently Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, on lateral shift basis, from the date of assumption of the charge of the post, for an overall tenure of five years upto 15.12.2019 vice Shri Govind Mohan IAS (Sikkim 1989).

Shri Bharthwal served as Director at MECON Ltd since February 2018. During his rich and varied experience as an IAS Officer, he has held various administrative positions in the areas of Revenue Management, Rural Development, District Administration, Energy & Power, Finance, Home Affairs, Transport, etc. In the State Government and in the Ministries of Labour and Mines in the Central Government. Prior to joining as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, he was Resident Commissioner, Government of Bihar in Delhi. He has widely published articles in Economic Times, Financial Express and other publications. Mr. Barthwal and IAS Officer of Bihar Cadre, is a Post Graduate in Economics. He did his B.A (Hons.) Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and his M.A.Economics from J.N.U, Delhi. He has a PG Diploma in Economics of Competition Law from King’s College, London.
