Shri Sriram Taranikanti IAS (Tripura 1992) given extension in upgradation as Director- Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration from the level of Additional Secretary to that of Secretary for a term up to 31.07.2026 by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension in the temporary upgradation of Shri Sriram Taranikanti, IAS (Tripura cadre, 1992 batch), as Director of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, from the level of Additional Secretary to that of Secretary, for a term up to 31 July 2026. This extension is both a recognition of his leadership at the Academy and an endorsement of his distinguished administrative career spanning more than three decades.

Shri Taranikanti’s academic journey began with his graduation in Chemical Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, where he earned his degree with first-class distinction. He then went on to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering from T.I.P.I.E., combining technical expertise with managerial proficiency—a combination that would later serve as a strong foundation for his work in governance, administration, and policy-making.

Since assuming the role of Director at LBSNAA in September 2023, Shri Taranikanti has been at the helm of India’s foremost civil services training institution, entrusted with preparing future officers for the complex challenges of governance. Under his leadership, the Academy continues to strengthen its reputation as a centre of excellence, integrating traditional administrative values with the evolving needs of modern governance. His focus on innovation in training methods, promotion of ethical governance, and emphasis on inclusive development resonates strongly with the institution’s legacy.

Before this, he served as Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Home Affairs (November 2022 to August 2023) and earlier as Additional Secretary in the Inter-State Council Secretariat (January 2022 to November 2022), where he contributed to enhancing coordination between the Centre and States, particularly in matters of national integration and cooperative federalism.

From 2011 to 2016, his tenure at the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), Hyderabad—first as Financial Adviser and later as Executive Director—was marked by initiatives aimed at strengthening regulatory oversight, improving operational efficiency, and promoting transparency in the insurance sector. His leadership was instrumental in ensuring a stable and trustworthy regulatory environment for the industry.

At the State level, Shri Taranikanti has held several significant portfolios in Tripura, including Commissioner & Secretary for Environment, Animal Resources Development, Science & Technology, and Transport. In each of these roles, he displayed remarkable adaptability, successfully managing diverse sectors that demanded both technical understanding and administrative skill.

Earlier in his career, he served as Registrar at the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD), Hyderabad, focusing on rural governance and capacity building. During his inter-cadre deputation to Andhra Pradesh, he held key positions in the Singareni Collieries Company Ltd., Roads & Buildings Department, Transport, and Urban Development, contributing to infrastructure, transport reform, and corporate governance. His early postings in Manipur, including as Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur and Sub-Divisional Officer in Chandel, gave him valuable grassroots-level insights into district administration, people’s needs, and the challenges of delivering public services in remote areas.

Across his wide-ranging assignments—spanning personnel administration, financial management, infrastructure development, environment, science, and national policy—Shri Taranikanti has earned a reputation for integrity, balanced decision-making, and result-oriented governance. His ability to adapt to varied administrative environments, whether in the field or at policy-making levels, has set him apart as a versatile officer.

The extension of his tenure as Director, LBSNAA, ensures continuity at a critical time when public administration faces new challenges in technology adoption, citizen engagement, and sustainable development. His stewardship promises to further refine the Academy’s training ethos, preparing officers not only to uphold the highest traditions of the civil services but also to innovate and respond effectively to changing governance demands.

With his academic brilliance, vast experience across multiple domains, and a deep commitment to public service, Shri Sriram Taranikanti exemplifies the values of dedication, leadership, and excellence that remain the hallmark of the Indian Administrative Service.
