Dr Ravi Mittal IAS (Chhattisgarh 2016) presently in the cadre has been appointed as Deputy Secretary- Prime Minister’s Office for a tenure of four years by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Shri Ravi Mittal, IAS, is a promising civil servant whose journey reflects a unique convergence of medical training and administrative commitment. An alumnus of the University of Delhi, he completed his M.B.B.S., equipping himself with a strong foundation in medicine and an in-depth understanding of public health systems. His academic path later expanded into governance through a Master’s degree in Public Management from Jawaharlal Nehru University in association with LBSNAA, where he secured a First Division, underscoring his inclination towards public policy and administration.

He began his administrative career as Assistant Collector in Rajnandgaon, where he gained valuable exposure to district administration, land revenue management, and the implementation of development programs. In 2018, he served as Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, in Delhi. During this tenure, he was involved in matters related to environmental governance, policy coordination, and pollution control. This assignment at the central level broadened his understanding of regulatory frameworks and inter-departmental functioning.
Subsequently, Shri Mittal took on the role of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Jashpur, where he handled sub-divisional administration, disaster management, and law and order responsibilities. His work involved close interaction with local communities, addressing public grievances, and ensuring effective implementation of government schemes. This field posting further strengthened his administrative capabilities and responsiveness.
