Maneka Gandhi emphasises strict monitoring for success of the Scheme

The Union Minister of Women & Child Development, Maneka Gandhi today held a Video Conference with senior officers of the Women & Child Development Department of state of Maharashtra along with 2 Commissioners and District Collectors of the ten districts identified for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme. The Video Conference was a part of regional and state-wise consultations being held by the Ministry on BBBP.

Maneka Gandhi elaborated on the problem of low CSR and requested the District Collectors for taking urgent action as per the guidelines and submit District Action Plan through the State Government. She also told them that the Prime Minister is going to launch the scheme on 22nd January, 2015 at Panipat (Haryana). She urged the District Collectors to play a catalytic role in the successful implementation of BBBP scheme, and appealed to engage themselves fully in ensuring its success.

She suggested the DCs to create awareness of the problems through yatras, holding meetings with Sarpanchs, religious leaders and identify champions who could propagate the message amongst the communities. She urged the DCs to celebrate birth of the girl child and maintain gudda guddi cards (recording sex at birth) and display this information in all panchayat ghars, hospitals and Government offices.

The Secretary, Ministry of Women & Child Development, Vinay Sheel Oberoi urged the state government officials and district collectors to ensure the success of the scheme by taking up new initiatives to change the mind-set of the people. Senior officers of Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Human Resource Development were also present during the video conference.

The ten districts of Maharashtra included in the BBBP scheme areBid, Jalgaon, Ahmednagar, Buldana, Aurangabad, Washim, Kohlapur, Osmanabad, Sangli and Jalna. The guidelines and template for Action Plan for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme has already been communicated to these officers.
