The flood situation remains grim in Assam and a Central team is visiting the State to take stock of the situation. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will lead a high-level Central team to assess and supervise rescue and relief operations in flood affected areas in the North East.

During the three-day tour, beginning today, the central delegation will visit Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, where more than 15 lakh people have been marooned by flood water. The team includes members from the National Disaster Management Authority, NITI Aayog and National Disaster Response Force.

All defence and Central Armed Police forces along with state agencies are involved in the rescue and relief operation in these states.

Our Guwahati correspondent reports that Mr. Rijiju will today visit Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts of Assam.Nearly 17 lakh people in 24 districts have been affected by flood in the state. River Brahmaputra is continuously flowing above the danger level at five places.

More than 2700 people have been evacuated in 7 districts by the NDRF, SDRF and the police. Additional rescue teams are being sent to affected areas. Two NDRF teams have been deployed at Majuli and two SDRF teams sent to Lahorighat at Morigaon district.
