In response to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s nationwide call for a cleanliness campaign to bolster the Swachh Bharat Mission and instill a sense of responsibility for a clean environment, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs spearheaded a nationwide campaign. Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda, took the lead in New Delhi, commending the impact of the Swachhata Campaign in fostering cleanliness and environmental consciousness among citizens. Minister of State (Tribal Affairs), Shri Bishweshwar Tudu, also led the campaign at Baripada Railway Station, Mayurbhanj, Odisha. Secretary (Tribal Affairs), Shri Anil Kumar Jha, and other senior officials actively participated in the cleanliness drive in New Delhi.
Various entities under the Ministry, including the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), National Scheduled Tribes Finance & Development Corporation (NSTFDC), Tribal Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (TRIFED), Tribal Welfare Departments of States, and Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs), actively joined the nationwide “Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” Swachhata Shramdaan event. Over 500 events were organized by EMRS, NESTS, TRIFED, NSTFDC, TRIs, and Ministry-funded NGOs across the country to promote the ideals of cleanliness, a healthy environment, and the success of Swachhata Shramdaan.
Students from Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) nationwide enthusiastically participated, showcasing unity and dedication to a cleaner and healthier society. These schools, an initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, dedicated an hour to voluntary cleaning of their premises and the surrounding areas, aligning with the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign and reinforcing the concept of communal responsibility for maintaining cleanliness.
Additionally, NSTFDC orchestrated numerous events at various locations, encouraging broader community involvement. Events were held at the NSTFDC Head Office in New Delhi and its Zonal Offices in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, and Hyderabad, with a large-scale event organized in Dehradun.
The events encompassed a range of activities including park and community ground cleaning, garbage and waste collection, and engaging with the local population to create a cleaner environment for all. The goal was to mobilize the local community, particularly students, to actively contribute to this noble cause.
