The Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, actively participated in “Shramdaan for Swachhata” at Gurgaon Railway Station, Haryana. This initiative was inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call for ‘Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta Ek Saath’ under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign. Shri Vaishnaw joined in cleaning the railway tracks and station premises, setting an example ahead of Gandhi Jayanti.

Subsequently, the Union Minister boarded the 20977 Ajmer – Delhi Cantt. Vande Bharat Express from Gurgaon Railway Station to Delhi Cantt. He inspected the cleanliness standards inside the train and interacted with passengers. At Delhi Cantt. Station, he observed a demonstration of “14 Minute Miracle Cleaning” of Vande Bharat Express by the ‘Swachh Vande Veers’ and officially launched the cleaning process for all Vande Bharat Express services nationwide.

The “14 Minute Miracle Cleaning” involves a well-organized and efficient cleaning of the coaches. This rapid cleaning process will significantly reduce the turnaround time for Vande Bharat trains. It includes systematic dry and wet mopping of both interior and exterior areas of the coaches, as well as proper disposal of waste to ensure cleanliness.

Speaking to the media after the launch of ’14 Minute Miracle Cleaning’, the Union Minister for Railways emphasized Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s continuous encouragement to innovate and enhance service delivery to the public. He stated that the new protocol, ‘Swachhata ka Naya Samkalp’, will lead to a reduction in turnaround time for Vande Bharat Express. This initiative will be gradually expanded to promote cleanliness throughout the Indian Railways network.

As part of the annual ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Pakhwada’ (SHS) observed by the Ministry of Railways from September 15 to October 2, more than 2.19 lakh individuals have participated in approximately 2050 activities during the initial 15 days of the campaign. These efforts have contributed to a cleaner and more eco-friendly railway system, aligning with the vision of a ‘Swachh Bharat’. Notable achievements include the removal of about 105 tons of plastic from railway premises and the collection of approximately 1085 tons of scrap from various railway establishments. A special drive was also undertaken to clear areas around railway tracks, resulting in the cleaning of 12,700 Track Kms by Indian Railways.
