Shri Alok Ranjan Ghosh IAS (Bihar 2011) presently on compulsory wait in the Personnel & Training has been appointed as Director – Department of Personnel & Training under the Central Staffing Scheme with effect from the date of assuming the charge of the post for a tenure upto 02.02.2030 (i.e. for the balance period of his tenure of five years) .
Shri Alok Ranjan Ghosh, an accomplished officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Bihar cadre of the 2011 batch, has recently been appointed as Director, Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Government of India. His appointment to this significant administrative position marks a return from his recent compulsory wait in the same department, underscoring the Government’s continued confidence in his capabilities and leadership.
A graduate in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) from the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai, Shri Ghosh brings a strong scientific grounding to his public service. Complementing his technical education, he holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS), where he excelled with First Class results—demonstrating a fine blend of analytical acumen and administrative foresight.
Over the years, Shri Ghosh has held a variety of impactful roles at both the state and central levels. Most notably, he served in the Vice President’s Secretariat as Private Secretary to the Vice President of India, at the rank equivalent to a Director. In this high-profile assignment, he contributed to policy support, administrative coordination, and diplomatic engagement at the apex constitutional level—an experience that added immense value to his administrative breadth.
Earlier, as Special Secretary-cum-Additional Chief Electoral Officer in the Election Department, Bihar, he played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and lawful conduct of electoral processes. His deep understanding of legal and institutional frameworks was instrumental in strengthening electoral management during his tenure.
Shri Ghosh also served as Director in the Agriculture Department, where he was engaged in driving policy and field-level reforms aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability. Prior to that, he held an extended and influential tenure of nearly nine years as Joint Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, reflecting both his subject-matter expertise and his consistent performance in a vital sector for rural livelihoods.
His administrative journey began at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, where he completed his foundational training between 2011 and 2014.
Shri Alok Ranjan Ghosh is regarded as a committed and pragmatic officer with a clear sense of duty and an ability to navigate complex administrative challenges with composure and strategic insight.
