Shri Abhijit Sinha IAS (Nagaland 2000) presently Additional Secretary- Department of Home, Ministry of Home Affairs has been repatriated to his parent cadre by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on the request of Government of Nagaland.
Shri Abhijit Sinha, a senior officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) belonging to the Nagaland cadre (2000 batch) is known for his deep administrative insight and multidimensional governance experience, Shri Sinha’s career spans over two decades of impactful public service at both the state and central levels.
A graduate in Chemical Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, Shri Sinha combines technical precision with administrative depth—an attribute that has defined his wide-ranging contributions across ministries and departments. His academic foundation has helped him approach governance challenges with analytical clarity and pragmatic solutions.
At the central level, he most recently held the post of Additional Secretary and earlier Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, where he was entrusted with key responsibilities related to national internal security, governance coordination, and inter-state matters. His tenure in the ministry marked a period of strategic engagement and policy stewardship in one of India’s most sensitive domains.
Prior to his central deputation, Shri Sinha served with distinction in multiple senior roles in Nagaland, including as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Home Commissioner, and Principal Secretary (Finance). These positions placed him at the heart of policy formulation, law and order management, financial planning, and state administration, allowing him to make critical contributions to the governance of a sensitive and strategically important northeastern state.
His earlier experience as Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland, demonstrated his capabilities in conducting free, fair, and peaceful elections in a complex political environment. He has also served as District Magistrate and Collector in multiple districts under inter-cadre deputation in Bihar, where he handled developmental administration and land acquisition matters with integrity and efficiency.
Shri Sinha has also held important central assignments as Private Secretary to Ministers of State for Education and Rural Development, and as Director in the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, showcasing his ability to work at the interface of political leadership and programmatic delivery.
