Ms. Sindhu B Rupesh IAS (Karnataka 2011) has been appointed as Director – Department of Space, Bengaluru under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of five years .
Ms. Sindhu B Rupesh, a distinguished officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Karnataka cadre, 2011 batch, has recently been appointed as Director, Department of Space, Bengaluru reflecting, both her professional competence and the trust reposed in her by the Government.
Academically accomplished, Ms. Rupesh holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S.) from Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, where she graduated with Grade ‘A’. Demonstrating a rare combination of medical and technical acumen, she went on to complete a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Electronics from Visveswaraiah Technological University, Belgaum, graduating with First Class with Distinction. Her multidisciplinary educational background has undoubtedly contributed to her ability to handle complex administrative roles across sectors.
Over the course of her career, Ms. Rupesh has held numerous key administrative assignments in the state of Karnataka. Notably, she served as Commissioner of School Education & Ex-Officio Additional Secretary, overseeing policy formulation and execution for the Pre-University Education Board. She also held the position of Director, Department of Pre-University Education, contributing significantly to reforms in the state’s higher secondary education landscape.
In the realm of economic development, she played a pivotal role as Commissioner and Director in the Sericulture Department, working on initiatives to modernize and promote sustainable silk production—a sector that plays a vital role in Karnataka’s rural economy. Her earlier tenure as Director, Department of Tourism, also saw her contributing to policy initiatives to boost domestic and international tourism in the state.
Her field-level administrative acumen was clearly demonstrated during her tenure as Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate of Dakshina Kannada, and as Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat, Udupi, where she led numerous development schemes with efficiency, particularly in land revenue management, rural development, and disaster preparedness.
In addition, she served with distinction in the Finance Department, handling portfolios related to budget, resources, and expenditure during crucial stages of fiscal planning for the Government of Karnataka. Her roles in e-Governance, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, and land revenue administration reflect a versatile administrative career shaped by both innovation and grounded governance.
Ms. Sindhu B Rupesh has demonstrated a unique ability to blend policy insight with on-ground execution.
