Shri Abhishek Kumar IFoS (Gujarat 2013), presently on central deputation and posted as Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, Govt of India, is approved for premature repatriation to his parent cadre on personal grounds with the provision of extended
cooling off (effective 10.10.2025).

The Cooling-Off period pertains to the time an officer must spend back in their state or parent cadre after a period of deputation to the central government. The provision of an extended cooling-off period for IAS officers serves as a regulatory mechanism to manage central deputation and subsequent repatriation to state cadres. In instances where an officer undergoes premature repatriation prior to the completion of their sanctioned central tenure, an extended cooling-off period is imposed.

This period is calculated by adding the remaining duration of the originally approved central deputation to the standard cooling-off requirement, thereby delaying eligibility for subsequent central assignments. This mechanism aims to discourage unscheduled departures from central postings, balance central service with state cadre obligations, and, ensure a fair chance for experienced officers.
