Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) came into existence in 1976, by virtue of BurmahShell (Acquisition of Undertaking in India) Act, 1976 when the right, title and interest of BurmahShell Oil Storage & Distribution Company of India Ltd. was taken over by Govt. of India. Its main
objective is to undertake refining and marketing of Petroleum products. BPCL is a Schedule – ‘A’ /
Maharatna CPSE in Petroleum sector with the administrative jurisdiction of Ministry of Petroleum
and Natural Gas.
II. JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chairman & Managing Director is the Chief Executive of the Corporation and is accountable to the Board of Directors and Government/Shareholders. He/She is responsible for the efficient functioning of the Corporation for achieving its corporate objectives and performance parameters.
