Barricading on the National Highways is provided in under construction projects for segregating the work space from the traffic space i.e. space used for movement of regular traffic. Barricading is provided temporarily as per requirement of construction works.
Barricading across the National Highways is sometimes done by State Government Authorities for law & order or other requirements for specific periods.
There is provision in the Indian Road Congress (IRC) standards and guidelines for providing barricading on the National Highways. The implementing agencies of MoRTH ensure that barricades are provided in construction zones as per IRC standards and guidelines for safety of road traffic and contractor’s personnel.
