Who is Sanjay Prasad | Shri Sanjay Prasad, a highly respected officer of the 1995 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Uttar Pradesh cadre, currently serves as the Principal Secretary to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, managing some of the most sensitive and high-impact departments including Home, Protocol, Confidential, Visa & Passport, Vigilance, and Information & Public Relations. He has been given the additional charge as Principal Secretary – State Property and Civil Aviation Department, reflecting the state government’s unwavering trust in his experience and administrative excellence.
An accomplished academic, Shri Prasad holds a postgraduate degree in Geography with First Class, bringing to the civil service a sharp analytical mindset and a deep understanding of developmental and strategic planning. With a career spanning nearly three decades, he has earned recognition for his integrity, competence, and effective governance across various tiers of administration.
His field experience as District Magistrate in major districts such as Allahabad, Faizabad, Agra, Firozabad, Ghazipur, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Maharajganj has been marked by decisive action, people-oriented governance, and the ability to manage law and order, revenue administration, and public welfare schemes with efficiency and compassion.
In parallel with his field duties, Shri Prasad has held key positions in policy and project leadership across departments such as Health & Family Welfare, Infrastructure & Industrial Development, Technical Education, Energy, Public Enterprises, and Home. As Secretary and Principal Secretary in these departments, he led administrative reform, policy formulation, and implementation of flagship initiatives.
His central deputation as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence and Department of Science & Technology further broadened his horizons and provided national-level policy exposure. These roles showcased his competence in dealing with complex inter-governmental issues and strategic coordination.
Since 2020, Shri Prasad has been at the core of the Uttar Pradesh government’s executive functioning as Secretary and then Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, where he has played a critical role in governance architecture, high-level decision-making, and state-wide coordination across departments.
He has now been given the additional charge as Principal Secretary – State Property and Civil Aviation, two departments crucial to Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure growth and public asset management. His oversight is expected to bring further accountability, strategic vision, and timely execution to these sectors.
