S S Nakul IAS empanelled as Joint Secretary

Shri S S Nakul IAS (Karnataka 2010) has been empanelled as Joint Secretary at the Centre.

Shri S. S. Nakul, IAS is a distinguished civil servant with a strong foundation in engineering and extensive experience across finance, corporate affairs, district administration, and local governance. He completed his B.E. in Electronics with First Class with Distinction from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering under Visvesvaraya Technological University. His academic excellence in electronics engineering has complemented his analytical and administrative capabilities throughout his career in public service.

Currently serving as Private Secretary to the Union Minister for Finance at the rank of Director (June 21, 2024 – January 24, 2026), Shri Nakul plays a key role in supporting ministerial functions at the Government of India level. His responsibilities include coordinating policy matters, managing high-level engagements, and facilitating strategic decision-making within the Ministry of Finance.

Prior to this, he served as Private Secretary to the Union Minister for Finance at the Deputy Secretary Equivalent level from January 2021 to June 2024. During this tenure, he was closely associated with key fiscal policy matters, budgetary processes, and inter-ministerial coordination. Concurrently, he also served as Private Secretary to the Union Minister for Corporate Affairs (January 2021 – September 2023), handling issues related to corporate regulation, governance reforms, and stakeholder engagement at the national level. These assignments provided him with significant exposure to financial governance and corporate regulatory frameworks.

Before his central deputation, Shri Nakul held important field-level assignments in Karnataka. He served as Collector and District Magistrate of Bellary (June 2019 – October 2020), where he was responsible for district administration, land revenue management, development initiatives, and law and order. His tenure in Bellary was marked by administrative efficiency and effective coordination of developmental programmes.

Earlier, he served as Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada (June 2016 – October 2020), overseeing district governance and revenue administration in one of Karnataka’s key districts. His experience at the grassroots level strengthened his understanding of public service delivery and developmental administration.

Shri Nakul also contributed significantly to local self-governance. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Zila Panchayat, Bagalkot (May 2014 – August 2015), and later as CEO of Zila Panchayat in Karnataka (August 2015 – June 2016). In these roles, he supervised rural development programmes, Panchayati Raj institutions, and decentralized governance frameworks aimed at improving service delivery in rural areas.

In the technology domain, he briefly served as Director in the Information Technology & Biotechnology Department in Bangalore (January 2014 – May 2014), where he supported initiatives promoting IT infrastructure and digital governance within the state.

His early career assignments include serving as Assistant Commissioner in Tumkur (August 2012 – December 2013), handling sub-divisional revenue administration, and completing his probationary training in Gulbarga (August 2011 – August 2012), which laid the foundation for his administrative journey.

Across his career, Shri S. S. Nakul has demonstrated versatility—moving seamlessly between district administration, rural governance, technology policy, and high-level financial administration at the Centre. His progression reflects the multidimensional responsibilities within the Indian Bureaucracy, where technical expertise and policy insight converge to deliver effective governance.

With substantial experience at both state and central levels, particularly in finance and corporate affairs, Shri Nakul continues to contribute meaningfully to public administration and policy implementation in India.
