REC Limited Inaugurates Swachhata Pakhwada 2025

REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) under the Ministry of Power and a leading Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC), today inaugurated Swachhata Pakhwada 2025, a fortnight-long cleanliness and awareness campaign to be observed across its offices nationwide from 16th May to 31st May 2025. This initiative is in alignment with the Government of India’s broader objective of fostering hygiene, sustainable practices, and public consciousness across communities.

The campaign commenced with the Swachhata Pledge, administered by Shri Jitendra Srivastava, IAS, Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of REC Limited, in the presence of all employees. In his address, the CMD underscored the importance of the Swachh Bharat Mission and lauded India’s collective achievement in becoming Open Defecation Free (ODF).

“Swachhata is not merely an act; it is a reflection of our values and our respect for community and nature. India’s journey from open defecation to dignity through sanitation has been transformational. The success of Swachh Bharat Mission lies in the fact that it connected with people at the grassroots and brought about real behavioural change,” said Shri Srivastava.

Inspiring Sessions by Grassroots Leaders

The inauguration featured an impactful awareness session by Shri Ramveer Tanwar, widely recognized as the “Pondman of India”, for his pioneering work in water conservation. His session sensitized employees to the vital interlinkage between cleanliness, water sustainability, and public health.

Adding to the momentum was Shri Jasmer Singh Chauhan, Sarpanch of Sultanpur Village, which earned the Cleanest Village Award in the Swachhata Survekshan Gramin 2023. His address highlighted the power of community leadership and grassroots commitment in driving sustainable development.

“Waste to Art” and Environmental Action

One of the most visually striking highlights of the day was the unveiling of a “Waste to Art” installation — a CHARKHA, meticulously crafted using 200 kg of recycled waste materials. The installation, symbolizing self-reliance and sustainability, was unveiled by the CMD in the presence of senior officials.

To reinforce REC’s commitment to environmental stewardship, a Tree Plantation Drive was conducted within the REC campus. The CMD, Directors, and Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) led the initiative, aiming to promote biodiversity and ecological balance.

Health and Welfare for Ground-Level Staff

A Health Camp was organized specifically for REC’s housekeeping staff, offering routine medical checkups and wellbeing consultations. In parallel, a financial facilitation session was held in collaboration with banking partners to educate staff on various government welfare schemes and promote financial inclusion.

Across its regional offices, REC Limited also undertook restoration of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs), furthering decentralized cleanliness drives and contributing to the national sanitation mission.
