Shri Ranjan Prakash Thakur IRTS (1990) presently CVO- Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC), Delhi has been given premature repatriation to his parent cadre to enable him to avail the benefit of promotion.
Shri Ranjan Prakash Thakur, a distinguished officer of the 1990 batch of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), is known for his exemplary service, strategic leadership, and cross-sectoral experience in governance, infrastructure, and public administration.
Mr. Thakur assumed charge as CVO of ONGC on 29 April 2022, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening transparency, ethics, and integrity in organizational operations. His leadership in vigilance administration reflected his deep understanding of systems management and institutional accountability within large public sector enterprises.
Prior to his tenure at ONGC, Mr. Thakur served as Principal Secretary, Industry, Commerce and Aviation, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, from 2021–22. In this role, he was instrumental in framing industrial policies, promoting investment, and facilitating business reforms aimed at enhancing economic development in the Union Territory. Earlier, he also held the position of Executive Director (Fuel Transportation) at NTPC in 2021, where his technical expertise and administrative acumen contributed to optimizing logistics and resource management.
An alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, Mr. Thakur holds an impressive academic background that includes an Executive MBA from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) and a degree from IIM Indore. He also possesses a Diploma in Multi-Modal Transport from Germany, reflecting his global perspective on logistics and transport systems.
Mr. Thakur’s illustrious career in the Indian Railways spans several key administrative and operational roles. He served as Director (Passenger Marketing) and Director (Coordination) in the Ministry of Railways from 2002–2007, where he contributed to policy formulation and passenger service enhancement. Between 2007–2012, he worked as Private Secretary to the Minister of Tourism & Culture and Information & Broadcasting, demonstrating his versatility across sectors. He later served as Additional Director-General, Doordarshan (2012–2014), where he provided leadership in public broadcasting reforms.
From 2015–2017, he was Executive Director, Ministry of Railways, followed by a successful tenure as Divisional Railway Manager, Patna/Danapur (2017–2020), and later as Chief Safety Officer (2020).
