Shri Amit Gupta, an officer of the 2000 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, is a distinguished administrator known for his dedication to public service, strategic vision, and administrative efficiency. He presently serves as Principal Secretary, Public Works and Engineering Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Until recently, he also held the additional charge of Principal Secretary, Transport Department, and Chairman, Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), where he contributed significantly towards strengthening road infrastructure and transport governance in the state.
A graduate in Electronics Engineering with First Division, Shri Gupta’s academic excellence laid the foundation for a career marked by innovation and discipline. Over more than two decades in public administration, he has gained vast experience across key sectors such as infrastructure development, district administration, and land revenue management.
He began his career as Joint Magistrate in Agra, demonstrating strong leadership in law and order, public service delivery, and local governance. He went on to serve as Chief Development Officer in Agra and Jalaun, where his proactive initiatives in rural development, livelihood generation, and social welfare earned wide appreciation.
Shri Gupta’s tenure as District Magistrate and Collector in several districts—including Hamirpur, Jalaun, Etawah, Firozabad, Kannauj, Shrawasti, and Bijnor—showcased his ability to manage diverse administrative challenges. His focus on transparent governance, rural development, and citizen-centric administration helped implement several government programs effectively at the grassroots level.
As Divisional Commissioner of Agra and Kanpur, he played a pivotal role in coordinating large-scale infrastructure projects, improving urban governance, and monitoring inter-departmental initiatives for regional development. His tenure reflected a results-driven approach, ensuring timely execution of critical works and promoting public accountability.
In his current capacity as Principal Secretary, Public Works and Engineering, Shri Amit Gupta continues to oversee the planning, execution, and maintenance of major infrastructure projects across Uttar Pradesh. His emphasis on quality control, technological integration, and sustainability in public construction has strengthened the department’s operational efficiency.
