Shri Rajesh Kumar Sinha IAS (West Bengal 1997) presently Principal Secretary- Housing Department with additional charge of Principal Secretary- Youth Services and Sports Department and Principal Secretary- Disaster Management & Civil Defence Department has been given the additional charge as Principal Secretary- Animal Resources Development Department,West Bengal.

Shri Rajesh Kumar Sinha IAS is a distinguished member of the Indian Administrative Service whose career reflects a rare blend of technical excellence and administrative depth. An alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, he completed both his B.Tech. and M.Tech. in Civil Engineering with First Division, building a strong analytical foundation that has consistently informed his governance approach.

With nearly three decades of wide-ranging experience in West Bengal, Shri Sinha has held key leadership roles across urban development, agriculture, education, industry, rural development, and district administration. Currently serving as Principal Secretary, Housing Department, Government of West Bengal (since April 2025), he is entrusted with steering urban development and town planning initiatives in a state undergoing rapid urban transformation. He also holds additional charge as Principal Secretary, Youth Services & Sports Department and Principal Secretary, Disaster Management & Civil Defence Department, reflecting the confidence reposed in his administrative acumen.

Prior to this, he served as CEO of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (August 2024–April 2025), where he oversaw major metropolitan infrastructure and transport-linked development initiatives. His tenure in urban governance has been marked by an integrated vision that aligns housing, transport, and civic infrastructure with sustainable planning principles.

Shri Sinha earlier served as Principal Secretary, Housing (from November 2022), and briefly as Principal Secretary, Science & Technology, where he handled portfolios including biotechnology—demonstrating his versatility across both infrastructure-heavy and knowledge-driven sectors.

A significant portion of his career has been devoted to Agriculture & Cooperation. As Secretary and earlier as Joint Secretary and Director in Agriculture and Agricultural Marketing, he played a pivotal role in strengthening market linkages, agricultural marketing reforms, and farmer-centric administrative mechanisms. His tenure also included leadership roles in Animal Husbandry & Dairying and as Secretary in the Mass Education Extension Department, highlighting his multi-sectoral governance experience. In addition to district leadership, he contributed to rural development as Commissioner in the Panchayat & Rural Development Department and to industrial growth as Director of Micro, Small Scale Enterprises & Textiles. His tenure as Commissioner (Agricultural IT) in the Finance Department further demonstrated his ability to integrate technology with fiscal and agricultural systems.

Shri Sinha also underwent foreign training in Bangkok, broadening his exposure to international administrative practices. This global perspective, combined with his IIT-honed technical background, has enabled him to approach governance challenges with structured problem-solving and long-term vision.
