MHA reshuffles 50 IPS and 20 DANIPS in Delhi Police

Indian Bureaucracy News, New Delhi, March 03, 2026 | The Government of Delhi on Tuesday (03.03.2026) issued 4 orders effectively transferring 50 IPS and 20 DANIPS officers in the Delhi Police, setting in motion an extensive mid-level reshuffles in the first quarter of the year.

In numerical terms alone, over 70 officers have been moved across the IPS and DANIPS cadres. In structural terms, the exercise cuts across nearly every major operational and supervisory wing – from ranges and districts to specialised crime, intelligence, traffic and security units. The changes span the ranks of Director General (DG), Joint Commissioner of Police (Joint CP), Additional Commissioner of Police (Addl CP) and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), affecting Police Headquarters, territorial districts and allied services.

At the DG level, new appointments have been made in Civil Defence, Home Guards and Prisons, and, several Joint CP-level assignments have been realigned. Sanjay Kumar Jain has been posted as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Commissioner of Police. Kime Kamjing has been appointed Joint CP (Armed Police), a position earlier held by Dheeraj Kumar, who now moves to Joint CP (Crime) and will head the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF). These shifts affect both the armed formations and the specialised crime wing simultaneously. Changes have also been effected in Southern and Eastern Ranges and in Traffic, reflecting adjustments across field supervision and operational command.

The most striking feature is the elevation of seven officers from the AGMUT 2012 batch from district-level DCP positions to Additional Commissioner of Police (Addl CP) rank at Police Headquarters. This marks a clear transition point for officers who until recently commanded field formations now move into supervisory control of specialised and policy-driven units such as Crime (ANTF), Tech & Public Interface, Economic Offences Wing, Security, Recruitment and Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations. The leadership layer just below the top tier has effectively been reset.

The effect cascades downward. District commands across New Delhi, South, East, Dwarka, Rohini, Shahdara, North-West, Outer and Central have changed hands. Officers from the 2013–2015 batches have stepped into these roles. Simultaneously, younger IPS officers from 2017 onwards are being positioned as Additional DCPs, broadening operational grounding.

Two highly visible wings — Traffic and Security — have seen parallel changes at both Addl CP and DCP levels. There is also a discernible strengthening of technology- and intelligence-linked units, with fresh leadership in IFSO, ANTF and Tech & PI.

Several DANIPS officers have been given additional DCP or Addl DCP responsibilities on current duty charge across districts and support units.

Taken together, the reshuffle results in broad changes at the middle tiers of the force, spanning headquarters, specialised units and territorial policing formations.
