National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), Chairman and Managing Director, Dr. H Purushotham while inaugurating the two day workshop on Patent Searching said India was rich in research publications but fared poorly in patenting. While India ranked fifth in research publications, it ranked 52nd on the Global Patent Index, he said. He has further stated that there was a need for awareness on patent search and filing methods among researchers and  start-ups, so that Indian Patent Index could be improved.
