After the successful completion of trial operation of 72 hrs at its rated capacity of 500 MW, NLCIL has declared the Commercial Operation of Unit #2 of NNTPP from  10.02.2021 / 00:00 hrs.

The NNTPP Project replaces 600MW Neyveli First Thermal Power Station (TPS-I) with additional Capacity of 400 MW. The glorious journey of Thermal Power Station I, comes to an end with its retirement on 30th September, 2020.  The TPS I was commenced in 1962 and it is South Asia’s first and only lignite–fired Thermal Power Station. The TPS I plant generated a total of 1, 85,390 million units since inception and the Units of TPS-I have clocked a total service of  32, 66,140 Hours.

The Commercial Operation of Unit # 1 of NNTPP was declared on 28.12.2019.With both Units under Commercial Operation, NNTPP has transformed from Project Stage to full-fledged Thermal Power Generating Station. The 500 MW Lignite Fired Boilers are  1st  of its kind in India with drum less once through Tower Type Boilers and designed for 100% Ash Utilization.

With the commissioning of Unit # 2 of NNTPP, the total installed capacity of Thermal Power Plants of NLCIL and Its subsidiaries has increased to 4,640 MW and total Generating Capacity, including Renewable Energy to 6,061 M.
