Indian Bureaucracy, New Delhi, February 08, 2025| The Government of India has appointed Shri Kamaljit K Kamal IRS (C&IT 2013), the Joint Commissioner of Mumbai GST & CX Zone, as the Deputy Secretary (Level 12) in the Office of the Custodian of Enemy Property for India (CEPI), Mumbai, under the Ministry of Home Affairs. His appointment is on a deputation basis until November 24, 2026, he replaces Shri Patil Prashant Sudamrao IRS (C&IT 2011).
India is currently home to 12,983 properties, known as “enemy properties,” which were left behind by people who migrated to Pakistan or China after conflicts with India. These include immovable assets, shares, and securities and have been under government control since 1968, when the Enemy Property Act was enacted. Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of enemy properties at 5,688, followed by West Bengal with 4,354.
The Custodian of Enemy Property for India (CEPI) oversees the management of these properties, ensuring they are handled in accordance with the law and helping the government to monetise them through auctions, transfers, and other means.
