Gujarat IPS Reshuffle- 11 Awaiting Posting Officers Get New Roles

Indian Bureaucracy News, Gandhinagar, March 06, 2026 | The Gujarat government on March 5th ordered the transfer and posting of 37 IPS officers across the State, affecting a wide range of positions in headquarters units, commissionerates and field formations. The reshuffle spans multiple ranks and districts, combining lateral transfers, promotions and fresh assignments to officers who had been awaiting postings.

Gujarat Police

One of the most notable features of the order is the concentration of new postings in Gandhinagar, which records the highest net gain of officers in the exercise. With 13 officers posted and three relieved, the State capital has registered a net addition of ten personnel. Several of these postings are in specialised wings including CID (Crime), CID (Intelligence), Law and Order, the State Monitoring Cell and the Cyber Centre of Excellence, all of which operate from the capital. Officers from the 2006 IPS batch, including Bipin Shankarrao Ahire, N N Chaudhari and K N Damor, have been assigned responsibilities in these units.

Ahmedabad, the State’s largest metropolitan jurisdiction, has also seen considerable movement. While the city receives nine officers, it also sees four officers relieved, resulting in a net addition of five. Many of these changes involve internal realignments across units such as the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Traffic and Special Branch, reflecting adjustments within the city’s policing structure.

The reshuffle has also addressed a backlog of officers who had been awaiting assignments. Eleven officers in this category have now been posted across districts including Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara and Junagadh. Among the notable developments is the promotion of Makrand Govindbhai Chauhan (2007), who has been elevated to the rank of Inspector General of Police and posted as DIG (Law and Order), Gandhinagar.

Outside the capital region, several ranges and commissionerates have also seen changes. Surat, for instance, has witnessed the transfer of senior officers holding positions such as Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) and Special Commissioner of Police, while fresh postings have been made in the city. The Prisons department has also seen new DIG-level appointments in Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Vadodara.

Overall, the transfers redistribute officers across intelligence, crime investigation, law-and-order and administrative assignments, while filling vacancies across districts and specialised units.
