The aviation industry in India has experienced a remarkable growth in the number of passengers carried by domestic airlines. According to the traffic data provided by various domestic airlines, the number of passengers has reached a record-breaking 503.92 lakhs, indicating an impressive annual growth of 42.85% compared to the previous year’s figure of 352.75 lakhs.

This substantial surge in passenger numbers reflects the strength and resilience of India’s aviation industry. It showcases the ongoing efforts to improve connectivity and provide convenient travel options for the citizens of the country. The increasing demand for air travel highlights the positive trajectory of the aviation sector and its importance in the overall transportation landscape.

Moreover, the month-on-month (MoM) growth rate between April 2022 and April 2023 has shown a significant increase of 22.18%, further emphasizing the sustained momentum of the domestic airline industry. This consistent growth is a testament to the collaborative efforts of airlines, airports, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation in creating a safe, efficient, and customer-centric aviation ecosystem.

In addition to the impressive growth in passenger numbers, the overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic flights for April 2023 remained remarkably low at 0.47%. Additionally, the number of complaints per 10,000 passengers carried during the same month was as low as 0.28. These achievements are a result of meticulous planning, operational efficiency, and proactive measures taken by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and airlines, even in the face of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, expressed his satisfaction with the growth of the aviation sector and India’s position as a global aviation hub. He acknowledged the efforts of all stakeholders involved in driving this growth and emphasized the government’s commitment to creating an environment conducive to the aviation industry’s success. The Ministry will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure sustainable growth, prioritize safety, enhance efficiency, and ensure passenger satisfaction.
