Ministry of Tribal Affairs approves setting up of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) in States/ UTs from allocated grants provided under “Grants under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India”. As per Union Budget 2018-19, by the year 2022, every block with more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons, will have an EMRS. Accordingly, necessary schematic proposals including fund requirements for the years 2018-19 and 2019-20 have been made to Ministry of Finance.

As on date, a total of 284 EMRSs have been sanctioned, out of which 214 have been reported functional by States/UTs. A total of 65231 numbers of students enrolled in 214 functional EMRs in State/UT.

During 2014-2015 to 2017-2018 a total of Rs. 68517.96 cores funds allocated for EMRSs during the last four years. The funding for EMRSs is made from “Grants under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India”. This Grant, inter alia, includes grants for other activities for the States as well and are sanctioned simultaneously. Therefore, consolidated Utilisation Certificates are received from the States/UTs for various activities approved for each States/UTs. This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs Shri.Jaswantsinh Bhabhor in Rajya Sabha.
