Shri Ashok Kumar Prasad IPS (West Bengal 1998), presently ADG & IGP- Western Zone, has been transferred and posted as ADG- Cyber Cell, West Bengal.
The Additional Director General (ADG) – Cyber Cell, under the West Bengal Police, is a senior IPS officer responsible for leading the state’s cybercrime prevention and investigation framework. The Cyber Cell functions as a specialised wing tasked with tackling the growing menace of online fraud, digital payment scams, identity theft, ransomware attacks, social media crimes, and other technology-enabled offences. Headed by the ADG, the unit supervises cyber police stations across districts, coordinates complex investigations, and ensures the use of advanced digital forensic tools for evidence collection and analysis. The ADG also works closely with central agencies, financial institutions, and technology platforms to track cybercriminal networks operating across state and national boundaries.
Apart from enforcement, the Cyber Cell actively promotes cyber awareness campaigns to educate citizens on safe online practices and operates helplines for prompt reporting of cyber offences. With the rapid expansion of digital transactions and internet penetration, the role of the ADG – Cyber Cell has become crucial in strengthening cyber security infrastructure and safeguarding citizens against evolving cyber threats in West Bengal.
