UPSC Member Shri Arvind Saxena, Indian Postal Service Officer (IPoS) (1978) has been appointed as the acting Chairman-Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) from June 20 vice Shri Vinay Mittal who completes his term on June 19.

Shri Saxena joined the UPSC in May, 2015 after he completed his stint in the Aviation Research Centre (ARC). Shri Saxena has also worked in the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) after he joined it in 1988 and “specialised in the study of strategic developments in neighbouring countries”.

He joined the Research & Analysis Wing of the Cabinet Secretariat in 1988 and specialised in study of strategic developments in neighbouring countries. Served in five countries and Jammu & Kashmir, he travelled extensively, attaining domain specialisation in developments relating to China, Pakistan and other regional countries as well as economic, military, international terrorism and S&T issues. He took over as Special Secretary in-charge of the Aviation Research Centre in 2014, where he continued till he demitted charge in May 2015.
