Shri Ajay Chauhan IAS (Uttar Pradesh 1998), presently, Principal Secretary, PWD Department, Uttar Pradesh, is transferred and appointed as CEO – UP State Highways Authority (UPSHA), Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
The Uttar Pradesh State Highways Authority (UPSHA) was constituted under UP Act No. 19 of 2004, on 13 August 2004. The Uttar Pradesh State Highways Authority (UPSHA) is the designated agency responsible for the development, widening, and maintenance of state highways across Uttar Pradesh. Its primary mandate is to strengthen intra-state connectivity, facilitate trade and transport, and support industrial and agricultural growth through improved road infrastructure.
In the fiscal year 2024–25, UPSHA has been tasked with the widening and upgradation of 21 state highways into four-lane corridors. These projects are expected to increase carriageway widths from 7–14 metres to 14–25 metres, aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving logistics efficiency. Additionally, 107 state highways are proposed to be widened by 10 metres each, significantly enhancing road capacity across multiple districts.
The Government of Uttar Pradesh has allocated approximately ₹45,000 crore in 2024–25 for road and transport infrastructure. Out of this, nearly ₹34,000 crore is directed toward major projects, including those implemented by UPSHA. The Authority works in close coordination with the Public Works Department and allied agencies to ensure timely execution of these initiatives.
Through these projects, UPSHA contributes to reducing travel time, improving safety standards, and enabling better integration of the state’s industrial hubs, expressways, and rural-urban transport systems.
