A five-day training programme on handling airport emergencies is being conducted from 23rd April, 2018- 27th April, 2018 at Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Airport, Patna. The objective of the training programme is to enhance the preparedness of Airport Emergency Handlers to respond to CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) emergencies i.e. encompassing threats emanating from handling of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear material at the airports.

The training programme is being organized in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS). Four batches have already been trained one each at Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and Varanasi airports. The programme consists of lectures as well as field training, including live demonstrations of detection and decontamination including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Apart from training the airport emergency handlers to handle CBRN emergencies, the programme will enable the participants to provide medical first aid and initial psycho-social support. Lectures and demo sessions on various related areas of CBRN emergency management by experts from the domain departments i.e. Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) are also part of this training programme.

A total of 200 personnel will be trained which will include one-week training of 50 participants representing various agencies responsible for operations & maintenance, emergency handling and sensitization of 150 working level staff in a half day programme. A team of NDRF trained for CBRN emergency is posted in Patna and their expertise will also be utilized in the programme.
