Winners of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize 2022 Announced at CSIR-NIScPR’s ‘One Week One Lab’ Event in New Delhi

The prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize for the year 2022 was officially unveiled at the inauguration of the ‘One Week One Lab’ program organized by the CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication & Policy Research (NIScPR) in New Delhi.

Dr. N Kalaiselvi, Secretary of DSIR and Director General of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), had the honor of announcing the distinguished winners during the event. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Space and Atomic Energy, and Vice President of CSIR.

The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, a highly esteemed recognition in the field of science and technology, was awarded to twelve eminent scientists across seven different disciplines. Each of the following disciplines saw two outstanding scientists honored:

  1. Biological Sciences: Dr. Ashwani Kumar and Dr. Maddika Subba Reddy
  2. Chemical Sciences: Akkattu T Biju and Debabrata Maiti
  3. Engineering Sciences: Dipti Ranjan Sahoo and Rajnish Kumar
  4. Mathematical Sciences: Apoorva Khare and Neeraj Kayal
  5. Physical Sciences: Anindya Das and Basudeb Dasgupta
  6. Earth Sciences: Vimal Mishra
  7. Medical Sciences: Dipyaman Ganguli

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh presided over the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Dr. Ranjana Aggarwal, Director of CSIR-NIScPR, extended a warm welcome to the attendees, while Dr. Geethavani Rayasam, Head of CSIR-Human Resource Development Group, presented the citations of the SSB Prize winners. This prestigious recognition underscores the remarkable contributions of these scientists to their respective fields, further elevating India’s standing in the global scientific community.
