Utpal Purkaiti WBPS appointed ACP – Howrah Police Commissionerate
Shri Utpal Purkaiti WBPS, presently posted as Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Deganga, Barasat Police District, is transferred and appointed as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) – Howrah Police Commissionerate.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in the Howrah Police Commissionerate is a vital supervisory officer responsible for maintaining law and order, crime control, and public safety within designated divisions of Howrah. Functioning under the overall leadership of the Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioners, the ACP oversees multiple police stations and ensures effective policing at the subdivision level.
The ACP monitors investigations of criminal cases, supervises preventive actions, and coordinates intelligence inputs to curb organized crime, theft, narcotics activities, and other offenses. Given Howrah’s strategic importance as a major transportation and industrial hub—connected by the iconic Howrah Bridge—the officer plays a key role in traffic management, crowd control, and security arrangements during festivals, political events, and VIP visits.
Administrative duties include reviewing crime reports, conducting inspections of police stations, guiding subordinate officers, and implementing directives issued by senior command. The ACP also works closely with civic authorities and disaster management teams to ensure swift emergency response.
By strengthening community engagement initiatives and leveraging technology-driven policing tools, the ACP contributes significantly to maintaining peace, enhancing public confidence, and ensuring efficient service delivery within the Commissionerate’s jurisdiction.
Indian Bureaucracy Network wishes Shri Utpal Purkaiti the very best.
