Shri Subrata Bhattacharjee IFS (1989) presently Joint Secretary in Ministry of External Affairs, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Serbia. He is expected to take up his assignment shortly.

Shri Bhattacharjee Born in 1964 and an Engineering graduate by academic background, Mr. Subrata Bhattacharjee joined Indian Foreign Service in 1989. Since then, he has served in many Indian diplomatic Missions located in four different continents. He began his career as Third Secretary / Second Secretary in Embassy of India, Bonn. His subsequent assignments include posting as Second Secretary / First Secretary in the High Commission of India in Lusaka, as Consul in the Consulate General of India, Frankfurt, as Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, as Counsellor at Embassy of India, Ankara, as Assistant High Commissioner of India in Chittagong (Bangladesh) and as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India, Cairo. He assumed the charge as Ambassador of India to Republic of Guatemala on 24th April, 2012.
Mr. Bhattacharjee speaks, in addition to Indian languages, English and German. His personal interests include movies, bridge and swimming. He is a Postgraduate in Physics.
