Shri Subodh Yadav IAS (Karnataka 1999) presently Additional Secretary- Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti has been repatriated to his parent cadre by The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Complementing his technical background, he earned an M.A. in International Development Policy from Duke University, USA, graduating First with Distinction from the Sanford School of Public Policy. Shri Yadav joined the Indian Administrative Service in 2001 and began his career in the Karnataka cadre, where he acquired extensive grassroots and district-level experience. His early postings as Assistant Commissioner, Sakaleshapur, and subsequent roles as Deputy Commissioner in Kodagu, Chickballapur, Gadag, and Dakshin Kannada, exposed him to the full spectrum of district administration. Handling land revenue management, disaster response, development coordination, and law-and-order responsibilities, he developed a reputation for administrative clarity and calm leadership in varied regional contexts.

His engagement with local governance deepened during his tenures as Chief Executive Officer, Zila Parishad in Gulbarga and Mangalore, where he worked closely with Panchayati Raj institutions. These assignments strengthened his understanding of decentralized planning, rural development, and institutional capacity building. He later served in urban administration roles, including Deputy Commissioner, Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, and Special Commissioner, Solid Waste Management Cell, Bangalore, contributing to urban governance and municipal reform initiatives.

Shri Yadav’s versatility is evident in his movement across key functional domains. He served in the Commercial Taxes Department and Finance Department (Enforcement), gaining exposure to fiscal administration and regulatory enforcement. His role as Additional Commercial Tax Commissioner further refined his understanding of revenue systems and compliance frameworks. He later took charge as State Project Director, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, and Secretary, Karnataka Public Service Commission, reflecting trust in his ability to manage education and institutional processes with fairness and precision.

In the social sector, his tenure as Commissioner, Health & Family Welfare added depth to his experience in public service delivery systems. He also served as Secretary, Planning, Programme Monitoring & Statistics Department, and Secretary, Hyderabad Karnataka Area Development Board, where regional development planning and monitoring were central to his responsibilities.

At the regional level, Shri Yadav served as Regional Commissioner, Gulbarga Division, overseeing land administration and coordination across districts—an assignment that required both strategic oversight and operational sensitivity.

His transition to the Government of India marked a significant phase in his career. From February 2020 to August 2024, he served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. In this role, he dealt with critical aspects of national water governance, inter-state coordination, and long-term water resource planning. Recognizing his contribution and experience, he was appointed Additional Secretary in the same ministry in August 2024, a position he continues to hold. This role places him at the forefront of policy and implementation in one of India’s most strategically vital sectors.
