(Unique Identification Authority of India), under the Ministry of Electronics & Information
Technology for a tenure of five years vice Shri Manish Bhardwaj IAS (Gujarat 1997) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet at Joint Secretary Level (Level 14).
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a statutory authority under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. Established in 2016 under the Aadhaar Act, UIDAI is responsible for issuing the 12-digit unique identification number – Aadhaar to residents of India. This number serves as a vital tool for identity verification and enables direct benefit transfers, financial inclusion, and access to government welfare schemes.
UIDAI maintains one of the world’s largest biometric ID systems, integrating fingerprints, iris scans, and demographic details to ensure authenticity and security. It also oversees the Aadhaar ecosystem, which includes enrolment agencies, authentication partners, and registrars.
