Shri Shekhar Vidyarthi, an accomplished officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), has built a distinguished career marked by administrative versatility, policy depth, and a strong academic foundation in economics. With a B.A. (Honours) in Economics from Delhi University, followed by an M.A. and M.Phil. in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, he combines academic rigor with practical governance experience. His educational journey, consistently marked by second division achievements, reflects a steady and disciplined approach that has translated into impactful public service.
Over the years, Shri Vidyarthi has held a wide array of positions across sectors such as district administration, social justice, environment, industries, and culture. His current assignments as Director General in the Archives & Archaeology Department and the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Haryana, underscore his seniority and the trust reposed in him by the state leadership. In these roles, he is actively contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage while simultaneously driving industrial growth and food processing initiatives—two seemingly distinct domains that require both strategic vision and administrative finesse.
His tenure in the Commerce & Industries Department since August 2022 highlights his role in promoting industrialization, ease of doing business, and investment facilitation in Haryana. He has been associated with policies aimed at strengthening micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and boosting food processing industries, which are crucial for employment generation and rural economic development.
Prior to this, Shri Vidyarthi served as Director in Environment & Forests from September 2018 to August 2022, where he dealt with critical issues related to ecology, environmental protection, and sustainable development. As Managing Director of the Haryana Scheduled Castes Finance & Development Corporation and Director & Special Secretary in the SC/ST Welfare Department, he played a key role in implementing welfare schemes aimed at marginalized communities.
