Selvi L Jyothsana wins Silver Medal at Asian Youth Chess Championship

Ms. Selvi L Jyothsana, a 7th Std. student of St. Joseph of Cluny Matric Higher Secondary School had participated in the Asian Youth Chess Championship held at Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 31st March to 10th April 2017, as a representative of India and returned home with Silver Medal.

Participants from India, Iran, Malaysia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kirgiztan and United Arab Emirates along with the host nation Uzbekistan participated in the Tournament.

NLC India Limited sponsored her expenses, to participate in the International Tournament.  She returned back with Silver Medal in the Asian Youth Chess Championship. She has also won a Bronze medal in the Blitz Chess Championship and was placed with 5th position in the Rapid Chess Championship in the same meet. She was qualified to participate in this International event, by bagging a bronze medal in the National Youth Chess Championship held at Ahmedabad, where she participated as a representative of Tamilnadu. It is praiseworthy to note, that she had participated in many National and International Events, earlier.  Last year, she secured 4th place, in the Asian Chess Championship, held at Mangolia. She is trained by Sri A. Pavanasam, Dy. Chief Manager/Sports Development Center, NLC India Ltd., Neyveli.

Shri L.K.Lakshminarayanan, Executive Engineer/Electrical, Mine-I, father of Selvi L. Josthna, thanked the NLC India Management for their timely support & sponsorship which helped the student to win the Medals.
