Shri Sanjiv Ranjan IFS (1993) presently Ambassador of India to the Republic of Colombia, has been concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Ecuador, with residence in Bogota. Shri Ranjan has done his B.A. (Hon.) Economics from Delhi University and M.A. in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.   He completed his ISC from St. Michaels School in Patna in 1985.

Between 1995 and 2009, he held diplomatic positions in Indian Embassies in Madrid, Lima and the Permanent Mission of India, New York interspersed with tenures at the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India. He served as Deputy High Commissioner of India to Mauritius from 2006 to 2009.Since September 2009, he worked as Director (North) in the Ministry of External Affairs and in April 2012 he was appointed as Joint Secretary in the newly established Development Partnership Administration. In his last posting at the Ministry of External Affairs, he served as the Coordinator of the third India Africa Forum Summit held in New Delhi in October 2015.
