Indian Bureaucracy News, Mumbai, December 12, 2025 | Shri Sadanand Vasant Date IPS (श्री सदानंद वसंत दाते IPS) (Maharashtra 1990), is appointed as the new Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP), he will succeed incumbent DGP Smt Rashmi Shukla IPS, who is due to superannuate on December 31, 2025.
An officer of the 1990 batch of the IPS, Maharashtra cadre, Date brings decades of experience in counter-terrorism, intelligence, and internal security to the post. He has been serving as Director General of the National Investigation Agency since April 1, 2024.
Shri Date’s career spans a range of senior positions at both the state and national levels. He has served as Deputy Inspector General in the CBI, Additional Commissioner of Police in the Economic Offences Wing, Commissioner of Police for Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar, and Director General of the Anti-Terrorism Squad in Maharashtra. A recipient of the President’s Police Medal in 2007, Date holds a doctorate from Pune University, a postgraduate degree in commerce, and is a qualified cost and management accountant. He also attended the Humphrey Fellowship program at the University of Minnesota, focusing on the control of white-collar and organised crime.
Shri Date drew international attention during the 2008 Mumbai attacks, sustaining injuries while rescuing women and children at Cama and Albless Hospital. For his actions, he was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry. His appointment as Maharashtra’s DGP comes at a time of evolving security challenges, with expectations high regarding the direction of policing and law enforcement under his leadership.
