Indian Bureaucracy News, New Delhi, September 28, 2025 | Shri Rajeev Verma IAS (AGMUT 1992), presently serving as Chief Secretary of Chandigarh, has been appointed as the next Chief Secretary of Delhi. He will take charge on October 1, 2025, or from the date of his joining, succeeding Shri Dharmendra, who retires on September 30. The appointment was notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs through an order issued from the recently inaugurated Kartavya Bhawan, New Delhi.

His long stint in Goa as Secretary across departments like Finance, Planning, Rural Development, Health, Energy, and Women & Child Development showcased his ability to handle varied responsibilities with efficiency. As Commissioner of Excise and later as Secretary in critical departments, he left an indelible mark through reforms and policy-driven initiatives.
At the Centre, Shri Verma served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence from 2013 to 2017, a position that required high-level coordination, strategic policy work, and oversight of sensitive matters. His contributions during this period underlined his capability to work in high-pressure environments where precision and responsibility were paramount.
In Delhi, his role as Principal Commissioner in the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and later as Chairman & Managing Director of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) reflected his expertise in urban development and public transport management. Both assignments demanded innovative solutions to urban challenges, and Shri Verma’s work was acknowledged for bringing administrative discipline and forward-looking strategies.
His leadership in Chandigarh as Advisor to the Administrator (2022–2024) and later as Chief Secretary (2024 onwards) stands out as another high point of his career. In these positions, he was responsible for steering governance in the Union Territory, managing personnel administration, and ensuring smooth coordination between departments. His tenure was marked by effective decision-making and an emphasis on good governance practices.
