Pusa Krishi app taking technology from Lab to Land launched

Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture Shri Radha Mohan Singh launched ‘Pusa Krishi’, a new mobile app for farmers at the valedictory session of  Krishi Unnati Mela. Speaking at the session he said “the app will work towards fulfilling the call of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for taking technology from ‘Lab to Land’”. The app will provide farmers with information related to new varieties of crops, resource conserving cultivation practices as well as farm machinery and implements will help in increasing returns to farmers.

He also said that the Government through its various schemes/initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna, Soil Health Card Scheme, is working towards increasing the usage of technology at the hands of the farmers.

‘Krishi Unnati Mela’ was a three day long farmers fair held at PUSA by Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and ICAR with Confederation of Indian Industry as its strategic partner. The mega event, that celebrated the great contribution of India’s farmers to agriculture, witnessed the participation of over 1 lakh visitors and 500 public and private exhibitors. The event also felicitated 45 progressive farmers with ‘Krishi Karman’ awards.

Other dignitaries present at the valedictory session were Shri Mohanbhai Kundariya, Minister of State;Shri Sanjeev Balayan, Minister of State; Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary,  Department of Agricultural Research and Education; Shri Shobhana K Pattanayak, Secretary , Department of Agriculture & Co-operation; Shri Ashok Kumar Angurana, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries; Shri Chandrajit Banerjee, Director, General CII , Shri Raghaverdra Singh, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare; Shri Narendra Bhooshan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare; and Smt. Ravindra Kaur, Director, Indian Agricultural Research Institute.

Earlier another mobile app ‘Kisan Suvidha’ was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India at the inaugural of ‘Krishi Unnati Mela’. This app aims at providing information to farmers on weather, market prices, farm machinery as well as identification and management of crop pest and diseases.

Speaking at the valedictory session Shri Chandrajit Banerjee said “CII recognizes agriculture as a key driver of the Indian economy and has established its Food & Agriculture Center of Excellence to contribute to the growth of the agriculture and food sector. The center has been working very closely with the farmers in particular to facilitate knowledge transfer and its adoption”. He also said that “in today’s demand led value chains, private sector R&D has a key role to play and complement the public research system.”

Shri Banerjee also stressed on the need for collaborative efforts by the public and private sector for agri R&D and extension given the need to tackle the emerging new day challenges faced by Indian agriculture. CII has offered to extend its full support to all initiatives that will work towards applying the actions emerging from the 3 day Krishi Unnati Mela
