Policy on Rehabilitation of Street Children

Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, has informed that The Ministry is implementing a centrally sponsored scheme namely Child Protection Services (CPS) Scheme – Mission Vatsalya under which support is provided to States and UT Governments for delivering services for children in need of care and protection and in difficult circumstances including rehabilitation of children living on the street situations. The Child Care Institutions (CCIs) established under the scheme support inter-alia age-appropriate education, access to vocational training, recreation, health care, sponsorship etc.

As per information received from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), it has written to the State/ UT Governments and shared its suggestions regarding formulation of policy for rehabilitation of street children. NCPCR suggestions were shared vide letters dated 16.02.2022 and 24.02.2022 respectively with the Chief Secretaries of all States/UTs for their necessary action.
