Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu joined from Datia Airport, while Union MoS for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Shri Murlidhar Mohol participated from Satna Airport.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI), which developed both projects with a combined investment of nearly ₹100 crore, said the two airports are equipped with modern passenger facilities and sustainable features. With their operationalisation, the total number of functional airports in Madhya Pradesh now stands at eight (08).
Satna Airport, constructed at a cost of ₹37 crore, is designed to handle 50 passengers per hour during peak hours and up to 2.5 lakh annually. The facility supports Dornier-228 aircraft operations, features a two-bay apron, modern check-in and baggage handling systems, and parking for 50 cars. Located in north-eastern Madhya Pradesh, Satna improves access to sites such as Chitrakoot and Maihar Temple, in addition to supporting the region’s industrial base.
Datia Airport, developed at a cost of ₹61 crore, can currently handle ATR-72 aircraft, with provisions for future A320 operations. The terminal is designed for 150 peak-hour passengers and 2.5 lakh annually. Facilities include check-in counters, baggage handling systems, and city-side parking. Datia, known for landmarks such as Peetambara Peeth and Datia Palace, is expected to see improved tourism and trade.
Both airports incorporate sustainability features, including 100% LED lighting, energy-efficient equipment, rainwater harvesting, and reuse of treated water for horticulture.
AAI noted that the expansion is expected to boost tourism, hospitality, education, healthcare, retail and logistics.
