Shri P Mohangandhi IAS (West Bengal 2004), presently Secretary, Industry, Commerce & Enterprises Department, with additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director, West Bengal Mineral Development & Trading Corporation, is appointed as Director – Institute of Environmental Studies & Wetland Management, West Bengal bringing with him an exemplary record of administrative service, spanning over two decades in critical areas of governance. He is presently serving as the Secretary, Industry, Commerce & Enterprises Department, Government of West Bengal, and also holds additional charge as the Chairman and Managing Director of the West Bengal Mineral Development & Trading Corporation.
Shri Mohangandhi began his civil service journey in 2004 and has steadily risen through the ranks due to his commitment, insight, and hands-on leadership. His early years saw him take up diverse field assignments, beginning with training and subsequent roles such as Assistant Collector in West Midnapore (2005-2006) and Sub-Divisional Officer in Jangipur (2006-2008). These foundational roles helped him hone his administrative acumen and people-centric approach.
He went on to serve with distinction in Murshidabad as Revenue Officer and Additional District Magistrate (2008), and later took on key roles in the Home Department, including as Under Secretary and OSD to the Minister, where he played a supportive role in internal security and policy matters between 2008 and 2009.
From 2009 onwards, Shri Mohangandhi took on senior district-level leadership roles, beginning as Additional District Magistrate in Bardhaman, followed by impactful tenures as District Magistrate of Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, and Birbhum between 2010 and 2018. His leadership in these diverse districts was widely praised for balanced governance, effective disaster management, and promotion of grassroots development.
Following his success at the district level, he transitioned to state-level responsibilities. In July 2021, he was appointed Chairman & Managing Director of the Mineral Area Development Authority, where he helped streamline mineral governance and promoted sustainable development in the mining sector.
Since January 2023, he has been serving as Secretary of the Industry, Commerce & Enterprises Department, playing a pivotal role in industrial policy, trade facilitation, and entrepreneurship development in West Bengal. His concurrent leadership as CMD of the West Bengal Mineral Development & Trading Corporation reflects the trust reposed in his abilities to steer complex and high-value public sector undertakings.
His latest appointment as Director of the Institute of Environmental Studies & Wetland Management is seen as a strategic move to harness his deep administrative insight and dedication towards sustainable development.
