Shri Polavarapu Mallikharjuna Prasad presently Director(Planning & Projects), Northern Coalfields Ltd., has been appointed as for the post of Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Coking Coal Ltd by Public Enterprises Selection Board( PESB).

Shri P M Prasad joined CIL in August 1984 after graduating [BE(Mining)] from Osmania University in the year 1984 and since then performed his duties at Western Coalfields Limited and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited in various capacities ranging from Executive Trainee to General Manager upto April 2015. His various accolades of those times include reopening of underground fire area in 1994-95 at DRC mine in WCL in five stages. For this outstanding job. He received Meritorious certificate as Best Mines Manager from Secretary Coal MOC and Chairman CIL in WCL in 1995. As GM Lingaraj Area, MCL, assigned with the responsibility of opening of Kaniha Opencast Coal project in Mahanadi coalfields limited, his diligence led to successful opening and operation of project from March’2010. As GM, Hingula Area, diverted nallah at Hingula Opencast Area to unlock coal reverse of 26.00 MTe in the year 2014-15 and started New Railway Siding No. 9 at Talcher Coalfield.

Due regards to Safety compliances in his working can be acknowledged from the Safety awards won by the projects he worked. In Annual Safety fortnight competitions, he received prizes on multiple occasions at company level including hat-trick for two projects i.e. Padmapur OC, WCL between 1996 and 1998 and Nandira UG Mine, MCL between 2004 and 2006.

After gaining valuable knowledge and experience in Coal India Ltd., he joined as Executive Director (Coal Mining), NTPC, from May’2015. He has been credited with expediting the process of award of MDO projects and awarded Pakribarwadih coal block (NTPC’s first project) and floated NITs for remaining coal blocks. From March’16 he took charge as Executive Director cum Head of the Project, Hazaribagh, Jharkand and the task was to start coal mining operations in Pakribarwadih Coal block. He resolved issues with Project affected people, Peoples Representatives and District Administration which subsequently ushered the Mining operations in NTPC’s flagship mining project and commenced the coal production in Feb’2017.
