NLCIL hosts 73rd National Football Championship

The Southern Zone qualifying rounds of the 73^rd National Football Championship (Santosh Trophy) jointly organised by NLC India Ltd., Tamilnadu Football Association (TFA) and Cuddalore District Football Association (CDFA) was kick started at Bharathi Stadium, Neyveli on (03.02.2019). 7 teams from Tamilnadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Services are participating in the event which will be held upto 8^th February 2019.  The Central Public Sector Unit, NLCIL got this coveted opportunity to host the event for the first time in the history of the company.

While inaugurating the tournament, Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL said as the company is having sufficient infrastructure to host such type of National Sports Events, it will organize similar Sports events in future also.Shri R.Vikraman, the Director (HR) of NLCIL while addressing the gathering informed that NLCIL is producing Sports stars regularly who are shining in International, National and State level.  He said that it is an opportunity for the local players to learn the techniques of the game by watching the strategies of National Level players, in these types of events.

Shri Balasubramaniyan, Vice-President, Tamilnadu Football Association, Shri Veera Ramachandran, Patron, CDFA, Shri Radhakrishnan, Secretary, CDFA spoke on the occasion. Representatives from All India Football Federation (AIFF), Senior officials of NLCIL, TFA and CDFA participated.

The first match played between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh ended in a draw as both the teams scored one goal each.  The matches will be held up to 8^th February, 2019. The second day match, played between Kerala and Telangana on 04-02-2019 morning was also ended in draw. In the second match played in the evening of yesterday, Services Team met Puducherry and the Services Team registered a 3-0 win.        On the third day, evening (05-02-2019) Karnataka Team is facing Andhra Pradesh team.
