Uttar Pradesh has been appointed as Chairman- National Road Safety Board.
The National Road Safety Board (NRSB) is an advisory body constituted by the Government of India under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 to enhance road safety and reduce road accidents across the country. Operating under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the Board provides expert advice to the Central and State Governments on matters relating to road safety, traffic management, vehicle standards, and road infrastructure.
The Board plays a crucial role in recommending policies and best practices for improving road engineering, vehicle safety, traffic regulation, and accident prevention. It advises on the design, construction, and maintenance of national highways and other road networks to ensure safer travel for all road users. The NRSB also promotes the adoption of advanced technologies, intelligent transport systems, and international safety standards in road transport.
Another important function of the Board is to analyse road accident data, identify high-risk areas, and recommend corrective measures to minimise fatalities and injuries. It works closely with government agencies, transport authorities, research institutions, and other stakeholders to strengthen road safety initiatives and improve emergency response systems.
Through its policy recommendations, research, and technical expertise, the National Road Safety Board contributes significantly to India’s efforts to build a safer, more efficient, and sustainable road transport system while supporting the national objective of reducing road accident fatalities and enhancing public safety.
