Navy Day is being observed . The day is observed on 4th December every year to celebrate achievements and role of the naval force to the country. During the India-Pakistan war of 1971, the Indian Navy played a significant role in the bombing of the Karachi harbor and sank Pakistan Naval Ship PNS Ghazi. The Navy Day celebrations not only display the nation’s technological progress but also the maritime achievements of India.
The Indian Navy plays a great role in securing the marine borders of the country as well as enhancing the international relations of the country through foreign port callings, joint exercises, humanitarian missions and calamity relief.
Defence Ministry said, as a run up to the Navy Day this year, twenty innovations have been shortlisted from those submitted by units and establishments across the Navy for central evaluation.
The innovations range from innovative repairs to complex system modules to development of new techniques that would save money, time and manpower.
The innovations by Indian Naval Ships Kuthar been selected as Winner, while Vikramaditya as Runner-up in Operational Units category. Weapons Electronic Systems Engineering Establishment and Naval Aircraft Yard, Kochi have been selected as Winner and Runner-up respectively in Shore Establishments category.
These innovations along with a few more selected innovations will be displayed at the two day ‘Innovation Pavilion’, at Navy House, New Delhi from today.
