The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW), Government of India, is organizing a celebration of World Bee Day at Raja Bhoj Agriculture College in Warasivni, Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh. The event will be held tomorrow and will be attended by the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, along with the Agriculture Minister of Madhya Pradesh and the Chairman of the OBC Welfare Commission of Madhya Pradesh. Around 1,000 farmers, beekeepers, processors, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders associated with honey production are expected to attend.

The World Bee Day celebration will feature an exhibition with over 100 stalls showcasing various varieties of honey bees and different products in the beekeeping sector. Technical sessions will also be organized to upgrade the scientific knowledge of beekeeping among farmers and beekeepers. These sessions will cover topics such as production, research, partnership with industries, market strategy for domestic and export markets, marketing challenges and solutions, and discussions.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has been making significant efforts to promote beekeeping in India. Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat scheme, the centrally funded scheme “National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM)” has been launched to promote scientific beekeeping and achieve the goal of a “Sweet Revolution.” The NBHM is implemented through the National Bee Board and focuses on promoting scientific beekeeping and entrepreneurship among small and marginal farmers, infrastructure development for post-harvest management, and support for research and development.

India’s diverse agro-climatic conditions provide great potential for beekeeping and honey production. The adoption of scientific technology, quality standards, and promotion of other beehive products have helped beekeepers increase their income and meet the growing demand for honey and beehive products in both domestic and international markets. Beekeeping plays a crucial role in effective pollination, which increases agricultural productivity and contributes to food and nutritional security in the country.
