The prestigious and professional body of the Nation, The Institute of Directors, New Delhi has honoured NLC with the prestigious and coveted “National Golden Peacock Award for Corporate Social Responsibility-2015” in appreciation of its initiatives on the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) front.

The Navratna Public Sector Undertaking NLC has been responsible for the growth of the industries in the Nation and also for the Economic development with its mining activity and generation of power. The Corporation has been contributing to a very large extent in the welfare of the people of the peripheral villages. The Corporation has been spending crores of Rupees for the well being of the people of the peripheral villages, in its early stage, even before the CSR was not introduced as a statutory measure by Government of India.

BASIC AMENTIES

As a responsible organisation of this region, the NLC has been providing basic amenities to the people of the peripheral villages ensuring they face no difficulties. Accordingly, basic infrastructure like drinking water facility, medical facility, roads, bridges, schools, library, convenience, place of worship, social welfare centres, etc., are provided by NLC . In addition vocational training are imparted to the youth of the villages.

WATER RESOURCE AUGMENTATION

For raising the Ground Water Table, and water facility for irrigation, the Corporation under CSR has taken up the special project ‘JALAPARYAPATHA’ (Water Resource Augmentations). Under this scheme the Corporation has spent Rs.13.72 crore towards desilting the Walajah Tank near Vadalur to facilitate around 200 villages receive uninterrupted water supply for irrigation. Further Percolation wells, Check dams and artificial recharging of the Ground water has helped to raise the water table and retaining the fertility of the soil. Sanitation and Food Security of the region has also been taken care by these activities. 2% of NET PROFIT Rs.47.50 crore has been spent by the Corporation Last year (2014-15) towards CSR. It is significant to note that this amount is 2.28% of the Net Profit of the organisation for the above period. Similarly it was Rs.26.30 crore in the year 2013-14 which was 1.80% . The Institute of Directors in New Delhi has honoured NLC with the National Golden Peacock Award 2015 in recognition and appreciation of the CSR activities of the Corporation in Mining and Metallurgy Sector.

The elite Institute of Directors, New Delhi, the consultants on the commercial issues of leading organisations of the Nation has instituted this award. The award for NLC in the Mining and Metallurgy Sector was assessed by the Chairman of the Awards Jury Justice M.N.Venkatacheliah the former Chief Justice of Supreme Court.

THE AWARD PRESENTATION FUNCTION

391 contestants had applied for the three Awards (CSR Global & National and HR Excellence) NLC was awarded the National Golden Peacock Award-2015 in the Mining and Metallurgy Sector and the award was presented to NLC on 05-02- 2016 at the 10th International Conference on CSR held at Mumbai by Smt. Pankaja Gopinatharao Munde, Hon’ble Minister of Rural Development and Water Conservation, Women and Child Development, Government of Maharashtra, in the presence of the Lt. Gen. J.S.Ahluwalaia (Retd.) The President of the Institute of Directors. Senior officials of the Corporation handed over the award yesterday (15-02-2016) at Corporate Office to Shri Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLC.
